After the spectacular reception Denis Azabagic received last March, The Boston Classical Guitar Society is proud to present the 2009-2010 season opening concert with Denis in the CAVATINA DUO .
The CAVATINA DUO brings together two extraordinary international soloists – the Spanish flutist Eugenia Moliner, hailed as a “brilliant young musician” by the British Flute Society magazine, and Bosnian guitarist Denis Azabagic, winner of no fewer than eleven international guitar competitions.
Since winning the “Young Musicians of the Doelen” competition in the Netherlands in 1996, the Cavatina Duo has captivated hundreds of audiences with electrifying performances in over 15 countries across North America, Europe and Asia, in such prestigious venues and festivals as Ravinia (Chicago), Aix-en-Provence Summer Festival (France), Eern & Veem Festival (the Netherlands), and the new National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing, China.
The duo’s repertoire includes music from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and contemporary periods. A high point of their concerts is pieces based on the folk music of their native lands. Composers from around the world have been inspired to write and arrange works for the duo, and the duo was the recipient of the Encore Prize in 2003 for one such collaboration.
The Cavatina Duo were featured as the subject of a cover story and interview in Classical Guitar Magazine (UK), the first guitar and flute duo to be so honored.
They have recorded five CDs, most recently an all-Piazzolla disc and a CD of Balkan music.
Eugenia Moliner has performed with the principal musicians fo the Chicago Symphony and Rotterdam Philharmonic, and has been featured on radio and television programs in Spain, the Netherlands, Taiwan and the USA. She holds degrees in music performance from the Conservatories of Valencia (Spain) and Rotterdam (the Netherlands), where she graduated with highest honors.
